On October 22nd, at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Khettarama, a specialized U15 Nutrition Program for North Zone 1 players was led by Sports Nutrition Physician Dr. Hashan Amarathunga, as part of the Coach Education Unit’s ongoing efforts to develop well-rounded cricketers. The program highlighted several key aspects crucial for young athletes’ development:
Balanced Diet: Emphasizing the importance of a nutrient-rich diet containing proteins, carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals to support growth, recovery, and sustained energy levels during intense training and matches.
Hydration: Stressing the need for proper hydration to maintain peak performance and avoid fatigue, especially under physically demanding conditions on the field.
Pre- and Post-Training Meals: Educating players on optimal pre- and post-training nutrition to fuel their performance, improve stamina, and accelerate recovery after exertion.
Personalized Nutrition: Teaching athletes how to adapt their nutritional plans based on individual factors such as body type, metabolism, and physical activity levels, ensuring personalized support for performance.
This knowledge equips young cricketers with the tools to enhance their physical endurance, mental sharpness, and overall health, laying a strong foundation for their future success in the sport.
