The U-15 Players Nutrition Program for Western Province – Gampaha District Zone 1, organized by the Coach Education Unit and led by Physician Dr. Hashan Amaratunga, offered young cricketers an invaluable session on achieving peak performance through proper nutrition. Dr. Amaratunga guided the players through essential nutrients critical for athletes—carbohydrates for sustained energy, protein for muscle recovery, and healthy fats for endurance. Using the “traffic light system,” he illustrated a practical approach to meal planning: green for go-to nutrient-dense foods, amber for moderate choices, and red for occasional indulgences.
This system aimed to simplify balanced diet choices, helping players stay “in the zone” both on and off the field. The session mirrored the precision of a cricket strategy, highlighting nutrient timing, hydration, and maintaining energy levels over long innings. By the end, players were equipped with a deep understanding of nutrition, fueling their journey to stronger, healthier athletic careers.
